Underneath it All

I was chatting with my oldest son’s teacher yesterday, and at one point I found myself nodding and agreeing with a few of the things she was saying.  I guess she thought I had said something, because she stopped and said, “Sorry?  What were you saying?”

“Oh, uh, no,” I stammered, caught off guard.  “I wasn’t saying anything.  I made a noise.  I was agreeing.  I was making agreeing noises at you.”

“Oh,” she blinked.  “Okaaaay…..”

Behind her I could see another teacher’s shoulders begin to shake as she turned slightly away and tried to hide her smile.

Believe me, friends, the “me” who speaks is not nearly as cool and articulate the “me” who writes.
